The #newDefender respects the past but is not a prisoner of it. This is a new #Defender for a new Era. Its unique personality is accentuated by its distinctive profile and optimal proportions, which makes it desirable and capable - a charming 4x4 that wears its design and design integrity with uncompromising commitment.
The new D7x platform (x stands for Extreme) is based on an aluminum monocoque and creates the most rigid structure Land Rover has ever produced.
Three times stiffer than the traditional body-to-frame solution, it has been designed to pass Land Rover's #Extreme Event Test and is the perfect basis for independent air or spring suspension, even the latest electrification solutions.
A range of diesel and petrol powertrains ensure that the new Defender has power, control and efficiency in any type of environment; Next year, a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) will join the range, for quiet ride with only electric propulsion.
With permanent all-wheel drive, two-speed range transmission, maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg and maximum static roof load of 300kg, the Defender is the perfect companion on any adventure.
It is also the first Land Rover to feature Configurable Terrain Response, which fine-tunes the vehicle's settings and optimizes them precisely for the type of terrain. The new Wade program optimizes fording - and instills confidence when crossing flooded roads and tracks. The Defender's maximum wading depth is 900mm.
Inside, the functional cabin features exposed structural elements and 21st century technologies, including the new advanced Pivi Pro infotainment. The next generation touchscreen is more intuitive and easier to use, requiring less input to perform the most common, while its "Always-on" design guarantees an almost instant response. The Software-Over-The-Air technology, with its 14 modules capable of receiving updates remotely, ensures Defender customers constantly updated software wherever they are.
