RZ 450e is a new #suv Full Electric, the first #lexus electric vehicle to be developed from scratch. It is not a car that simply uses battery electricity instead of a conventional engine; it goes much further and realizes the enormous potential of new technologies that improve performance and driving pleasure, faithful to the #lexus Electrified philosophy.
Chief Engineer Takashi Watanabe explains, "Our vision is to use electrification technology as a means to improve the basic performance of the vehicle, so that we can continue to pursue driving pleasure for all future generations."
First of all, RZ is a lexus, and maintains all the characteristics of performance and craftsmanship associated with the Brand. The company has leveraged its vast experience in vehicle electrification to deliver the benefits of a BEV with the essential refinement and driving experience that are unique to the brand. This is evidenced, for example, by an advanced transmission with optional by-wire steering with a new One Motion Grip steering wheel and front and rear e-Axles working in conjunction with lexus' new #DIRECT4 all-wheel drive torque control. . The foundation of handling and responsiveness is ensured by a new platform dedicated to electric vehicles, which boasts excellent structural strength, a low center of gravity and a generous wheelbase. A powerful lithium-ion battery is fully integrated into the frame, under the passenger compartment floor, and its quality is controlled to ensure performance is maintained over time.
The platform and the full electric setting also new freedoms in design. The exterior reinterprets the characteristic shape of the lexus hourglass in the vehicle's bodywork, while the interior is a light and open space that is both simple and luxurious, expressing Omotenashi #lexus hospitality and Takumi craftsmanship.
With its zero-emission performance, RZ will help lexus in its progress towards carbon neutrality and a sustainable mobility society. Here the focus is not only on the performance of the car on the road, but embraces its entire life cycle, from the procurement of components, to production and use cycle, up to eventual disposal. In the lexus plant in Motomachi, the RZ production center, new methods have already been adopted in the processes, phases that generally produce the highest emissions.
RZ is lexus' next step to become a 100% BEV brand in Western and Central Europe by 2030. The new model will be bookable by European customers starting April 20, ahead of the first deliveries of the vehicle from the end of 2022.
